Boulder, Colorado – 3/13/15 – A new, multi-family apartment building designed by STUDIO Architecture opened on March 15th at 1707 Walnut Street. Boulder-based Element Properties, a local housing developer, selected STUDIO to design the project. The stunning 28,000 SF building features 26 contemporary units that surround a private courtyard, underground parking and Flatirons views from spacious rooftop decks. “We took a highly contextual approach to the design of this building,” said Jeff Dawson, founder and managing principal of STUDIO. “The building looks and feels like a townhome with street side entries, but it’s really a three story apartment building with one and two bedroom flats.”
According to Dawson, the project’s location, while challenging, offered inspiration as well. “As an urban infill project this one was pretty complex, which is actually right in our sweet spot as a design firm,” said Dawson. “We took cues from the surrounding neighborhood, and the builder, Brinkman Construction, did a great job on the construction.”Dawson added, “We’re very proud of this project and thrilled that so many couples and families will now be able to call 1707 Walnut home.”
The project incorporates many sustainable features including a super-insulated building envelope, low water use plumbing fixtures and landscaping, smart technologies in the HVAC and lighting systems, Energy-Star rated appliances, and it is designed to accommodate a roof-mounted photovoltaic system to harvest renewable energy on-site.
